Mary Merriman
"Every session, a new guest artist from around the area is invited to complete the trio, assuring a new sound. For Mary Merriman, this provides a great opportunity to work with a variety of artists.'[Each musician brings] their own way of playing this art,' she said." -Michelle Fordice
Mary began her bass career in 1982, playing with various
jazz and orchestral groups in Michigan. Mary studied
privately at Central Michigan University, and was a
member of several jazz ensembles, including the Faculty
Jazz Band. Since relocating to South Bend, she has put
her energy into the art of the jazz trio. Mary has been
performing in the trio setting with her husband, Stephen,
since 2001. Their trio’s name has gone through
several evolutions before becoming The Merrimans. These
include, Portraits In Jazz, The Marian Emery Trio, and
The Standards Trio.
In collaboration with Stephen, Mary creates and produces
all of the artwork and marketing material for Merrimans'
Playhouse, The Merrimans, and Merrimans' Complete
Piano Service. Mary designs and maintains this website (a special thank you to David S. Hachen Jr. for providing photos for this website). All business offered by Stephen and Mary
are maintained under the umbrella of Merrimuse Enterprises.
